Booking Your Maternity Boudoir Session: A Guide
A maternity boudoir photoshoot is a unique and beautiful way to celebrate one of the most meaningful experiences of your life. If pregnancy has brought feelings of wishing you could stop time just for a moment and be present, having a professional photographer capture you sounds like the right fit.
Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of photographing many women during this stage in their life. Let me tell you: I will never stop loving it. Pregnancy photos truly highlight the power of women and their innate strengths. I could go on all day about how women are these mysterious, incredible unicorns who do not give themselves enough credit for how otherworldly they are.

Why Book a Maternity Boudoir Session?
If you’re on the fence about maternity boudoir photos, I get it. At this stage, it’s perfectly normal to be baby focused and thinking about their needs. But the truth is you deserve to be cared for and celebrated—and commemorating this transformative internal and external change with a photographic experience is so rewarding.
Then, of course, there’s that common trope of women putting themselves last, especially as their families grow.
We don’t do that around here.
In front of my camera is a space for women to be celebrated and captured authentically at all phases of life.
Here are a few more reasons you should book a maternity boudoir photoshoot:
To Celebrate Your Journey: Motherhood is one of the most transformative experiences you can go through, and you deserve to remember how strong and beautiful you felt during this time.
To Strut Your Stuff: Pregnancy can be tough physically and inherently brings about body changes. A maternity boudoir session is a powerful way to reconnect with your body and see how beautiful you really are.
To Create Lasting Memories: Not only will your photoshoot images be a keepsake that you can look back on for years, you will have the whole day experience to revisit when you need a reminder of your raw, powerful and feminine energy.
In an overwhelming, fast paced and digital world, I strongly believe in printing your images. I love tangible pieces that feel like art which is why my most popular maternity boudoir collections include either fine art albums or artistic metal prints as well as digital copies of your chosen photographs.
How to Prepare for Your Maternity Boudoir Session
You’re expecting, which means you’ve already got a lot going on. Hopefully, these tips will help prepare you for your photoshoot and bring some lightness and ease to the whole photoshoot process.
If you can check a few things off this quick prep checklist, you’ll show up to your maternity boudoir session feeling confident and camera-ready:
Choose your timing. There’s no right or perfect time to book your shoot, but most women choose to wait until their bump is more pronounced. If that feels aligned with you, aim to book your session between 28 to 34 weeks.
Think about a location that speaks to you: I’ve captured incredible maternity boudoir photos in my stunning studio space, at your home and I do a lot of these sessions outdoors. My best advice is to choose a setting that feels right for you. Wherever that is, I’m all in and we will create something unique together that feels like you!
Pamper Yourself: You don’t need to book 1000 services pre-shoot, but consider booking some self-care services that make you feel most beautiful. For you, that might mean a fresh haircut, or getting your nails done, or a little skincare prep too.
Hydrate and Rest: Your body's working overtime! Staying hydrated and well-rested can make a big difference in how you feel during the shoot.
Think about the vibe you want in your photos and your outfits: More on this coming up, but think about what makes you feel beautiful, whether it’s lace, silk, or something more understated.
As your maternity boudoir photographer, I’m always here to help you choose your outfits (I have a huge client closet that is open to for you to use as well), offer posing guidance, and be there every step of the way with any questions you have. The most important part of all is that you get to show up, and enjoy the maternity boudoir experience. Leave the rest to me!
Should I bring my partner to my maternity boudoir photoshoot?
Whether you want to bring your partner to your session or not is totally up to you! I have captured some pretty incredible couples for maternity boudoir, and it makes for an excellent keepsake of a couple’s cherished memories.
That said, don’t feel like it’s something you have to do. You can claim that time just for you. But it’s not all or nothing—you also have the option to have your partner pop in for a couple of shots at the beginning and then we can focus the rest of the session just on you!
We can always chat about this further when you book to make sure you get everything out of the shoot you’re hoping to.
Maternity Boudoir Outfit Ideas
Choosing a maternity boudoir outfit might be the funnest part of the whole process—and truly the options are just about limitless. I love helping choose outfits, and I have my full client closet that will be open for you to use as well. I never put a limit on how many outfits you can wear during your session because every client is so different. Instead I love building from the aesthetic or the emotions that you want to capture for your session and create magic from there.
Here are a few pregnancy boudoir outfit ideas to consider:
Sheer Fabrics: Soft, flowing fabrics to accentuate your curves and drape beautifully over your bump.
Lingerie Sets: Maternity boudoir lingerie is a classic choice, and it’s perfect for those who want to embrace feeling powerful and sexy during their shoot.
Oversized Button-Up Shirts: Another favourite that brings those casual yet sexy vibes. It’s a bit more relaxed, but also versatile.
Dresses: I’m not the biggest fan of really large flowing gowns, but there are a lot of simple, sheer or lace dresses that drape beautifully and open at your stomach to allow you to move with ease while still showing what you want to accentuate.
Implied nudity (in the sheets) A huge favorite from most clients because you can look and feel naked, without showing any bits. These always feel so natural, comfortable and are so much more about ‘you’ rather than the outfit you are wearing.
Nothing at All: Many women choose to wear nothing at all to their maternity boudoir session, and it might be my favorite choice. Nude maternity photos are raw, real, and absolutely stunning. I love doing close ups, and more artistic compositions with these as well so you can fully embrace having fully nude photos of yourself that look and feel like art.
I love doing a variety of outfits and poses and set ups throughout your session, so you will have lots of options to choose from. We work closely together through questionnaires and a facetime consult closer to your session to make sure you feel comfortable and prepared for the whole day.
