Can we meet with you?
Of course! I prefer meeting with couples beforehand so that you can see what I’m like, and so that I can see what the two of you are like together. It’s great to be able to go through your questions in person and to hear all about your big day! At this time you can also see samples of my gorgeous fine art albums and other printed options, and I can get to know the two of you better! If you live outside of Kamloops, we can set up a Skype or phone date to meet in “person-ish” 🙂
What is your photographic “style”?
You can see my style through my website, Facebook, and blog posts – I like to meld both a photojournalistic approach throughout the day, and capture all of the intimate moments without being intrusive – with a creative, fashion/stylized approach for the wedding party portraits. Every wedding is different and every couple is unique, and if you like one style over the other, of course I will work with your vision, but I find most couples enjoy having a mix of both! I think the best way to describe my style is romantic. I’m a sucker for that it “moment” between couples, friends or family and I strive to find the beauty in every situation!
Do you have professional training as a photographer?
Yes, I do! I went to the prestigious Emily Carr University in Vancouver, BC and graduated with my Bachelor of Fine Arts, with a major in Photography.
What happens if you get sick, or something goes wrong with your camera?
These are a few of my worst fears! I take all the necessary precautions in order to prevent that these fears will never happen in real life! I work with a few amazing local photographers who are similar in style, work ethic, and personality to me who will step in to photograph your wedding if something unfortunate were to happen to me. I also try to take very good care of myself so that it never comes to that. When I photograph a wedding I work with doubles of everything in case one of them malfunctions unexpectedly – this means – 2 professional camera bodies, several professional lenses, way too many memory cards, multiple flashes, extra extra batteries – the list goes on!
What if my wedding is out of town? Or a destination wedding?
I LOVE LOVE LOVE to travel and I will most definitely go wherever my passport will take me! If it’s a city outside of Kamloops, I charge 50 cents/km for land travel and if it’s somewhere further away usually a night or two accommodation will have to be included (unless it’s somewhere I’ve never been, I will probably make you a great deal!) For international travel contact me and we will make a specific collection just for you!
Will you accept a list of photos that we want?
Yes! This is YOUR wedding and I want to incorporate your tastes and ideas in to it! Pinterest is a great tool to find ideas but know that this is YOUR wedding and I want to make the photos and memories that are unique to the two of you! I love making your photos are memorable and special as possible and want them to speak to you as a couple – so please feel free to bring any ideas (wacky, minimalist or creative as they may be) to the table!
How much time should we leave for the creative wedding portraits?
Every wedding is different, which is why I like to talk to each individual couple to set up a time line so that they feel they are getting the most out of their day! I usually recommend no less than an hour and a half because the rounding up the wedding party and traveling to the photo area(s), and then taking the photos, takes time! These portraits are usually done directly after the family portraits (which typically happen right after the ceremony). Unsure of your timeline with the size of your wedding party? I can definitely help out with your timeline!
What if we want to do a “first look”?
A First Look is time set aside before the ceremony for the Bride and Groom to see one another for the first time (as opposed to seeing one another for the first time at the ceremony). This is totally your decision! I love doing first look photos as much as I love the traditional, bride and groom see one another when she’s walking down the aisle photos! The first look gives the two of you a bit more private time together to really appreciate that this day is about the two of you joining your lives together. He can express his emotions without friends and family watching his reaction and she can cry and kiss him as much as she wants. If you choose to do the first look, you can also choose to do you wedding party portraits before the ceremony so that you have more time to enjoy yourself and visit with your family and friends after the ceremony! Again, it’s great to know if you are leaning one way or another and we can work on your timeline together!
Do you think an Engagement Session is important?
Yes! I think it a very important “getting to know” one another session! Most couples aren’t used to being the centre of attention for a while day, and most are quite nervous about it – this session helps you to see how I work, and how I will interact with the two of you so that there are no surprises on your big day. It also helps me to see how the two of you are together in front of the camera, and gives me the opportunity to find your best angles! These photos also work great for customized guest books at the wedding or for your Save the Date cards!
When do I get to see the photos? How are they delivered?
Within two weeks after your wedding, I will post highlights from the day on both Facebook, Instagram and my Blog for you to share with friends and family and so you can get excited about how they turned out right away! The final photos will be delivered to you via an online sharing gallery (easy to download, and great for sharing with family + friends!) within the specified time in your contract (usually between 8-12 weeks).
Do I choose the images for my album?
The way that I have found that works best, is that I design the album for you first, with the images that I think work the best based on my design knowledge and artistic background, and then you get final say over the images used in the book! If I’ve picked a photo you aren’t crazy about, no problem, pick another and I’ll trade it – wish you favorite photo was a big spread in the book, that’s totally fine too! If I made you choose all the images, if becomes too daunting and can take much longer to decide, so I’ve found that this is the best, most efficient way for you 🙂
Why should we hire you as our photographer?
Because I will treat your wedding day as though it were my own! I believe in creating beautiful photographs that will stand the test of time. Photos that will encapsulate your everlasting love, photos that document the day as it happened, and photos that are rich in colour and that are perfectly ‘you’. Having been to one of the most prestigious art schools in Canada, I know I am more than qualified to create artistic compositions, instruct flattering poses, and handle difficult lighting situations, but more than that I have been honored to play such a important role in countless weddings, and to see firsthand how to capture true love in a photograph. Photographs are the only tangible memories from your wedding day, and I see my photographs and albums as precious heirlooms that will be passed down for generations. I genuinely love love, and I would be ecstatic to be a part of your day.
We want to book you – now what?
Contact me by phone (250.574.4629), email (info@rozalind.com), or Facebook to see if I am available for your big day! From there I would love to sit down with the two of you and talk more about your special day and how you envision it going! In order to secure the date for you, I personalize a contract for you both to sign, and with it I take a $1000 non-refundable deposit. The final payment is due 4 weeks before your wedding date (don’t worry, I send you a friendly reminder 2 weeks before the final payment is due!). At that meeting we can also talk about ideas and locations for your engagement session if you choose to do one! I also regularly book Boudoir Sessions (a great gift for your husband to be, and for yourself as well!) so feel free to ask me questions about any of those if you’re curious!
