Feature Female for May – Professional Hair Stylist TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR PROFESSIONAL HAIR SALON BUSINESS:
I have been in the hair industry for almost ten years now and feel so blessed that I can honestly say I love this job as much as I did when I first started, if not more. I opened up my own little studio a few years ago with the hope to create a thriving business from home while also starting a family. I wanted to create a life for myself and my family where we were free to live on our own schedule while still challenging my creativity and fuelling my love of the industry. Every day I get to walk two steps and be in my own little studio where I get to express my creativity and help women (and a few men) look and feel fabulous! Its so rewarding when clients leave feeling revived and refreshed and it makes my heart happy.
HOW DO YOU HELP WOMEN OVERCOME THEIR INSECURITIES?
This is the part of my job I love most. I get to completely transform a womans look, and help her find a style best suited to her, that will help her to feel fabulous and confident. Raising girls in todays world is slightly terrifying with society blasting adds everywhere telling us we need to look a certain way to be beautiful. I made it my goal this year to start every morning with my girls by saying one thing we love about ourselves in the mirror. Its fun and makes me feel great knowing that my girls are building a strong foundation in self love. I try really hard to encourage the women in my life to see themselves in a new light, instead of always pointing out our flaws. Try to start every day acknowledging the traits we love about ourselves.WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT BEING A BOSS BABE, AND WORKING FOR YOURSELF?
I love the freedom I have in creating my own schedule and my own work environment. I have two very busy girls who I want to be there for as much as I can, and with working for myself I am able to do just that. When I started working for myself I found the freedom to make my own schedule, and I also found the freedom in my work. While I was employed in a salon I felt the need to be a bit more cautious in my creativity with my work, but once I branched out on my own it opened up the door for me to let my imagination go, and challenged myself to try new techniques and formulas that I was to reserved to try. The door was opened, and with that my skills were able to grow. The truly wonderful part about doing all this for myself was I was able to build a clientele that I truly love. Most of my clients over the years have become such wonderful friends and are now dear to my heart so that I look forward to every days appointments.
SAY ONE NICE THING TO YOUR BODY (OR TO YOURSELF)!
You are amazing! You carried and brought two beautiful and sassy little girls into this world. Cherish every curve, every wrinkle, and every laugh line the years bring, and let your daughters see you do it! WHAT’S SOMETHING YOU DO TO OVERCOME FEAR?
I challenge myself everyday with little tasks that spark the feeling of fear. Push forward, for the things that scare us the most are usually the most worthwhile.WHAT’S SOMETHING YOU DO FOR YOU THAT MAKES YOUR HEART HAPPY?
I love to create. I am constantly drawing up new plans to build something, paint a picture, attempt to sew something, write in my journal or play around with a new hair technique. My mind is always spinning on what I can design next, and its my own form of therapy and I love to just zone out and not think about anything else but the project at hand. HOW DO YOU MAINTAIN BEING A SUCCESSFUL FEMALE ENTREPRENEUR AND STILL HAVE BALANCE IN YOUR LIFE?
Balance is an extremely hard one for me. Running a business while being a mom and a wife has been interesting to say the least. I have days where I feel like I have absolutely no balance at all, and then I have days where I feel like I need to high five myself. I could not have done any of this without the support of my amazing husband, who is really the one that keeps me mostly balanced, or my wonderful family. Family is everything to me, and without them I wouldn’t have been able to achieve what semblance of balance we have. One thing that has really helped along with the support, is being consistent in putting aside some time every day for myself. This helps me to reflect on the day, make changes if needed and prepare for the next. I believe last months boss babe had it right in saying that it isn’t necessarily balance we achieve, but a good flow of life. Things seem to flow smoothly when I’m organized and have my family’s support. IF YOU COULD GIVE YOUR YOUNGER SELF A PIECE OF ADVICE WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Don’t let anything hold you back from your goals, especially yourself. Stop worrying what others think of you and just live the life you want. Wear the 6 inch stilettos!
